The What, Why and How of Expository Preaching
'What do you mean by expository preaching? Why should we focus our attention to it? Is there anything special about it, in relation to the way that God addresses us? How should we prepare for and engage in expository preaching?'
Friday 27 May 11.30am - 1.00pm
Coming to Grips with Hebrews
'This session will deal with questions concerning why Hebrews was written, who the listeners were, what issues they were facing, how the author addresses these, and why the Letter is so distinctive. We shall look at the structure of Hebrews and determine how this might help us in preaching it to our own context. Also, what relationship does the doctrinal material have with the exhortatory parts of Hebrews, and how can we explain this so that God will speak His word through preaching to our hearers?'Saturday 28 May 9.30am - 1.00pm
Models of Expository Preaching
'Taking the principles that have arisen from our previous two sessions on Friday 27 May, we shall apply these to two different passages from the Letter to the Hebrews. This will involve all the participants working together in small groups to analyse the following passages and suggest how each might be explained in an expository way'Model 1: Confronted by God's Word (Hebrews 4:11-16)
Model 2: Why Jesus is Able to Save His People Completely (Hebrews 7:20-25)
